Chirpy is built so your data never has to be trusted to anyone — because it never leaves your iPhone in the first place.
What Chirpy does not collect
Chirpy is designed to function without knowing anything about you.
- No account or sign-in is ever required.
- No name, email, phone number, location, or other personal information is collected.
- No usage analytics or behavioral data is gathered.
- No crash-reporting or diagnostic data is sent anywhere — the iPhone version includes no crash or analytics SDK.
- Chirpy does not track you across other apps or websites and never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt, because it has nothing to track.
What stays on your device
Chirpy keeps a small amount of data locally on your iPhone, and only there. It is stored using iOS's standard on-device storage (UserDefaults and the app's private file storage).
- The alarms you create — time, label, repeat days, chosen puzzle, and sound.
- Your preferences — display name, default difficulty, snooze length, and which items the scan puzzle may ask for.
This data is never transmitted. Deleting Chirpy removes all of it from your device.
Camera & the “Scan an item” puzzle
One of Chirpy's wake-up puzzles asks you to point your iPhone at a real object — a shoe, a mug, your glasses — so you actually have to get out of bed to turn the alarm off. This uses the camera, and only for that purpose.
- Live frames are analyzed entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Nothing is sent to Apple, to us, or to any server.
- Frames are never saved to your Photos library.
- Each frame is discarded the instant it has been checked.
- The camera is active only while you are solving the scan puzzle, and never at any other time.
Notifications & alarms
So your alarm reliably rings at the time you set, Chirpy asks for permission to send notifications, and keeps its alarm engine running in the background using iOS's background-audio capability.
These are used for one thing only: delivering the alarm you scheduled. They are not used to collect any information about you, and no audio from your surroundings is ever recorded or accessed.
Third-party services
The iPhone version of Chirpy uses no third-party services that receive your data — no Firebase, no analytics provider, and no advertising network. The only machine-learning it uses is Apple's Vision framework, which runs locally on your device.
If this ever changes in a future update, this policy will be updated before that feature ships.
Children's privacy
Chirpy is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no data from anyone of any age, there is no personal information to gather, store, or share.
Changes to this policy
If the way Chirpy handles data ever changes, this page will be updated along with the “Last updated” date at the top.
